Newbiggin beach replenishment project
Welcome to Newbiggin by the Sea
content spacer

Newbiggin's promenade has been the focal point of the sea front for decades. Now the hard landscaping of the sea front will restore the promenade to a place where the community and visitors can walk and gather, with excellent views of the bay and improved play facilities.

Features include refurbishing the Church Point Play area, environmental improvements to Vernon Place and the former Boat Yard area.

In addition new feature steps are to be created in the centre of the bay to give access to the recharged beach. In addition three raised viewing platforms will be constructed behind the existing concrete flood defence wall to provide improved views for promenade users.

The following are initial visual ideas for the landscaping aspects of the redevelopment along the promenade. These plans are subject to change. Click to enlarge:

In addition to the planting and landscaping at Vernon Place, there will be a miniature version of the COUPLE sculpture placed on the promenade. This Couple will be a little smaller than life-size (about 5 feet tall), and will allow visitors to see the detail of the sculpture - and their faces!
